Every week we get enquiries that start with "I need printed pouches, what's the price?" - and we always have to reply with a list of questions before we can quote. If you have these 7 things ready before you contact any packaging supplier (including us), you'll get an accurate quote in one conversation instead of ten.
1. Your product and fill weight
Tell the supplier what goes inside and how much per pack (e.g. 250g of tea, 500g of pickle). Density matters more than weight - the same pouch holds 250g of spice powder but only ~25g of makhana. Not sure what size that means? Read our pouch size guide first.
2. Exact pouch size (the most important one)
Give three numbers: Width × Height × Bottom Gusset (in inches or cm). If the size isn't final, your design can't be final either - printing gets delayed and extra plate/cylinder costs can creep in. If you're unsure, order one sample kit, fill a pouch with your actual product, and confirm the size that works.
3. Material and finish
Kraft-window, matte, glossy, silver foil or transparent - the finish decides how well your pouch blocks light, moisture and air, not just how it looks. Our material guide explains which finish suits tea, spices, dry fruits, pickles and snacks.
4. Quantity - and whether custom printing even makes sense yet
Custom rotogravure/flexo printing typically starts at 300-500 kg per design (thousands of pouches), plus one-time cylinder charges. If you need fewer, don't force it: start with ready-stock pouches and a printed label or sticker, and switch to custom printing when your volumes justify it. We'll tell you honestly which side of that line you're on - see our custom packaging page for MOQs.
5. Label content - including FSSAI requirements
For food products sold in India, your pouch or label must carry: product name, ingredients list, net quantity, FSSAI license number, manufacturer/packer name and address, batch/lot number, dates (packed/expiry), MRP, and the veg/non-veg symbol where applicable. Have this text finalised before design - it decides how much printable space is left for your branding.
6. Artwork assets
Your designer (or ours) will need: your logo in vector format (AI, EPS, or PDF - not a WhatsApp screenshot), your brand colours (CMYK or Pantone values if you have them), any product photos in high resolution (300 DPI), and your barcode number (EAN/UPC) if you sell through retail or e-commerce marketplaces.
7. Your timeline
Custom printing takes time: design finalisation, cylinder making, printing, pouching and delivery. Ask your supplier for a realistic schedule and work backwards from your launch date - and build in a buffer for one round of design corrections.
