Choosing a pouch isn't only about how it looks on the shelf. The material decides how well it protects your product from the three things that spoil freshness: light, moisture and air. Here's a plain-English guide.
Match the finish to the product
| Finish | Best for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Transparent | Dry fruits, colourful snacks, items you want customers to see | Full visibility; good moisture barrier but lets light in |
| Kraft paper (with window) | Tea, coffee, organic and natural brands | Premium eco look, with a metallised inner layer for freshness; the window shows the product |
| Matte (white/black) | Premium, minimal brands; light-sensitive foods | Elegant no-glare finish; matte black blocks light well |
| Silver foil / metallised | Spices, coffee, tea, anything that must stay fresh longest | Highest barrier - blocks light, moisture and air; extends shelf life |
Quick rules
- Need the longest shelf life? Choose silver foil or metallised.
- Want customers to see the product? Choose transparent or a kraft window pouch.
- Selling a premium or natural brand? Kraft or matte finishes signal quality.
- Packing liquids or pastes? Use a spout pouch instead of a flat zipper pouch.
