If you have ever asked a packaging supplier "how much?" and been told a price per kilogram, you already know the problem: you sell your product per unit, but you're buying packaging per weight. That mismatch makes it almost impossible to know your true cost per pack - and easy to under-price your product.
Why per-kg pricing is confusing
A kilogram of pouches contains a different number of pieces depending on the pouch's size and thickness. A large, thick pouch might give you 60 pieces per kg; a small, thin one might give 400. So a "cheaper" per-kg price can actually be more expensive per piece.
How to convert per-kg to per-piece
- Ask the supplier for the weight of one pouch (in grams).
- Divide 1000 by that weight to get pieces per kg. Example: 1000 ÷ 8g = 125 pieces per kg.
- Divide the per-kg price by pieces per kg to get your price per piece. Example: Rs 300/kg ÷ 125 = Rs 2.40 per pouch.
Why we quote per piece
At Manjushree Plastics, our specialty pouches are sold in packs with the per-piece price shown up front, 18% GST included. No weight maths, no surprises - you see exactly what one pouch costs before you order, so you can price your product with confidence.
Rule of thumb: always convert every quote to a per-piece number before you compare. It's the only fair way to shop.
